Camacho adds another MotherLode title

ASPEN – He may act macho, but then again, 5foot-9 inch Dana Camacho nearly always backs it up at the MotherLode.

The pro from San Diego, Calif., by way of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., added to his list of MotherLode titles Friday at Koch Lumber Park, claiming the co-ed open crown with partner Laryssa Mereszczak of El Segundo, Calif. The pair downed Billy Chenowith of Orlando, Fla. and Becky Johnson of Dallas. Camacho, a MotherLode fixture, also has three open’s men’s titles, with the last coming in 2006.

In other action Friday, Lance Ellis of Englewood and Andrea Hatcher of Denver won the co-ed A division final with a win over Jonny Chan and Kelli MacFarland of Denver.

The main draw of the tournament gets underway today with the men’s and women’s open division beginning play at Koch Lumber Park. The A, BB and B divisions also begin play at grass parks around Aspen.

Today’s only final is in the men’s 37-andover master’s division, scheduled to start around noon at Koch Lumber Park.

Monday’s men’s and women’s open finals are tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
