The unbeaten Aspen High School girls lacrosse team heads into a big week, coming off a big victory.

The Skiers, under first-year head coach Jessica Owings, defeated rival Battle Mountain 22-8 in a key early season game at Edwards.

The win moved Aspen to 3-0 on the season with two key conference games this week.

The Aspen girls lacrosse team will play Monday in Grand Junction in a special 7 p.m. game at Colorado Mesa University.

On Thursday, the Skiers will head back to the Grand Valley for another league game at Grand Junction (4 p.m).

Then, the Skiers head to spring break.

“We didn’t know what to expect gong into the game (Friday), so I asked the girls to give 110 percent — which they absolutely did,” Owings said.

She said the Skiers had seven goals from Kendall Anderson.

Kelsey Fitzgerald scored six in the Aspen win.

“Identical twins Julia and Claire Boronski both had excellent games with eight draw controls and three interceptions between them,” Owings said. “It was also exciting to see Claire pass to Julia for an assisted goal in the first half.”

The Skiers opened the season with wins over Telluride and Eagle Valley.

The Skiers will host Battle Mountain in the rivalry rematch April 1 at Aspen School District Stadium.
