BHS girls dominate

The Basalt High School girls basketball team won twice over the weekend to remain tied for first place in the 3A Western Slope League.

On Friday, the Longhorns traveled to Olathe for a 74-16 win. Basalt held Olathe to eight points per half.

Basalt junior Autumn Caughern had a big all-around game with 20 points, 10 assists, and senior Mariah Mulcahy scored 21. Junior Lauren Redfern added 14 points and 16 rebounds.

On Saturday, BHS beat visiting Gunnison 69-46.

Mulcahy led in scoring again with 28 points, Caughern contributed 20, and Redfern followed with 12.

On the boys side, the Longhorns boosted their record to 6-3 in league and 6-8 overall with two wins – 64-59 over Olathe and 60-38 over Gunnison.
