Benefit set for Aspen Nordic skiers

A special Nordic fund-raiser for Aspen’s top Nordic competitors is set for Sunday in Aspen.
Make that a Nordic FUNraiser.
The benefit will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the Limelight Hotel in downtown Aspen.
The event will feature Nordic athletes Michael Ward, Noah Hoffman and Hailey Swirbul. All will be competing with divisions of the U.S. Ski Team this season.
Hoffman, an Olympic cross country ski racer for the U.S. will compete on the World Cup circuit this season.
Likewise for Nordic combined athlete Michael Ward of Aspen.
Swirbul, a Basalt High School senior, also is a cross country ski racer and former Junior Olympic national champion.
The Sunday fundraiser will include the three local athletes.
There will be free pizza and beer.
In addition, there will be a silent auction for goods and gear.
The public is invited to the athlete reception and Nordic fundraiser.

Fully aware he was in the midst of the mountain bike race of his life, Aspen’s John Gaston said he “tried to not think too far ahead” to prevent the magnitude of the moment from getting to him. He eventually finished runner-up in the iconic race.
