Belkin’s Moreno Hofland wins for second time at Tour of Utah
SALT LAKE CITY — Dutch cyclist Moreno Hofland of Belkin won his second stage at the Tour of Utah on Wednesday, winning a bunch sprint at Miller Motorsports Park.
Andrea Palini, an Italian riding for Lampre, was second.
American Eric Young of Optum-Kelly Benefit Strategies was third. Young lives in Boulder.
Another Amiercan, Ken Hanson of San Diego and UnitedHealthcare, finished fourth.
Jure Kocjan, a Slovakian rider for Team SmartStop, is the overall leader in the Tour of Utah.
He’s :02 ahead of Michael Schar, a Swiss rider for BMC who won Tuesday’s stage.
Serghei Tvetcov, a Romanian riding for Jelly Belly, is third, 8 seconds back.
Defending Tour of Utah champion Tom Danielson of Garmin-Sharp is 17 seconds back in a group tied at ninth.
Keegan Swirbul of Aspen, a first-year pro riding for the Bissell Development Team, finished safely in the third group Wednesday.
He’s currently in 92nd place overall in his first major multistage race.
The cyclists face a major uphill test today in the 104.7-mile stage that starts in downtown Ogden and ends with a summit finish at the Powder Mountain ski area outside Ogden.
