Basketball: Grand Valley tops Basalt boys
The Basalt High School boys basketball team dropped a tough 53-38 decision at Grand Valley on Saturday night in a Western Slope League game.
The Cardinals led 24-21 at halftime. They used a big 20-point fourth quarter for the win, holding Basalt to 11 in the period.
Grand Valley improved to 10-2 in league play, 14-3 overall with the Saturday victory. Basalt is 13-4 overall, 8-4 in the Western Slope League. The Longhorns won by 20 points Friday night at Gunnison.
In girls basketball, the Grand Valley girls stopped the Basalt girls 68-27 to improve to 14-2 overall.
Basalt’s girls are 2-15 overall, 2-10 in league play.
Also in girls basketball Saturday, the Aspen Skiers lost 42-31 at Gunnison.
Claire Boronski led the Skiers with 13 points.
Basalt is scheduled to play at Aspen on Friday night before hosting Olathe next Saturday.
