Basalt’s Michael Glen named 3A first team all-state in basketball
Basalt High School senior Michael Glen was named to the Class 3A all-state boys basketball team Wednesday, which is presented by CHSAANow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps, and voted on by coaches.
Glen led the Longhorns to the 3A state quarterfinals for the first time in 28 years, the season ending with a heartbreaking 56-54 loss to top-seed Kent Denver. Basalt finished the season with a 21-4 record.
According to MaxPreps, Glen played in all 25 games this season, averaging a team-best 21.5 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game. He also was named the Western Slope League player of the year.
Joining him as first-team 3A selections are Colorado Springs Christian’s Justin Engesser, Resurrection Christian’s Tanner Ervin, Faith Christian’s Benjamin Hawkins and Sterling’s Bodie Hume.
Engesser was named the boys 3A player of the year, while Sterling’s Mike Holloway was named the coach of the year.
Sterling defeated Faith Christian 48-47 in the 3A state championship game.
Roaring Fork senior Aldo Pinela was named all-state honorable mention.
