Basalt High School senior basketball player Michael Glen surpassed 1,000 career points Saturday, part of a two-game sweep of games at a tournament hosted by Montezuma-Cortez.
Friday, the Longhorns defeated host Montezuma-Cortez, 68-46, behind a 27-point performance from Glen. This left him needing only four points to reach 1,000.
In Saturday’s championship against Ignacio, ranked No. 10 in Class 2A, Basalt won 58-47, with Glen scoring 20 points. After surpassing the 1,000-point barrier, officials stopped the game and Montezuma-Cortez Activities Director Stacey Hall presented Glen with the ball he used to score his 1,000th point.
Basalt (6-1 overall) has won six straight since a season-opening 72-59 loss to Del Norte, which is ranked No. 5 in 2A. The Longhorns are off until hosting Roaring Fork on Jan. 10.
The Basalt girls basketball team went 0-3 over the weekend at its own Longhorn Classic. BHS lost 61-36 to Battle Mountain and 62-26 to Coal Ridge on Friday, before falling to Battle Mountain again Saturday, 44-31. Senior Carsyn Knotts had 17 points in Saturday’s game.
