Basalt to host Aspen in rivalry games

The rivalry games are scheduled for Basalt High School this week.

The second round of Aspen-Basalt basketball will be held Thursday night at the Big House in Basalt.

The girls varsity game will start about 5:30 p.m. The boys varsity game will follow at 7 p.m.

The games will be the penultimate Western Slope League contest for the Longhorns and the Skiers.

Both schools will travel for the regular-season finales on Saturday.

The Basalt boys are 4-13 overall, 1-11 in the Western Slope League.

Aspen boys are 8-9 overall, 4-8 in the Western Slope League. The Skiers lost their third consecutive game last weekend with a 52-44 home loss to Gunnison on Saturday. Grand Valley topped the Aspen boys 76-60 last Friday night.

Earlier this season, the Aspen boys defeated the Longhorns 74-57 in a game played at Aspen High School.

The Basalt girls will battle with the Aspen girls to avoid the bottom of the conference.

The BHS girls are 1-16 overall, 1-11 in conference. The Longhorns’ only victory was a 45-36 victory over the Aspen girls on Jan. 24 in Aspen.

The Aspen girls sport an identical 1-16 overall record, 1-11 in conference.
