BHS girls soccer wins Thursday at RF

The Basalt High School girls soccer team earned its second win in three days, beating host Roaring Fork 2-0 on Thursday in Carbondale.

“It was a pretty good win,” Basalt coach Andrew Huntsman said. “Roaring Fork played well. It was pretty evenly fought most of the game and we got through with a quick one in the beginning of the second half.”

Scoreless at halftime, it was a goal by Basalt’s Stella Scott just after the break that proved to be the game winner. She was assisted on the goal by Caitlin Coon. Later in the game, Basalt’s Emma Day tacked on the second goal to put the game out of reach.

Basalt improved to 2-2 with the win, while Roaring Fork fell to 2-3.

The Longhorns opened the season with a 4-1 loss at SkyView Academy and a 4-0 loss at home against Fruita Monument. They responded with a 6-0 win at Vail Christian on Tuesday, their only league game to date, and Thursday’s win against the Rams.

“We started out with some pretty tough games against hard competition,” Huntsman said. “Hopefully that will prepare us for the rest of the season.”

Basalt next hosts Moffat County on Tuesday and then will host Rangely on April 6 in Basalt.
