The Basalt High School boys soccer team bounced back into the win column with a 2-1 win over rival Roaring Fork.

The Longhorns, fielding a full roster for the first time all season, scored once in the first half and again in the second.

Erick Chavez found the net for Basalt’s 1-0 lead.

Teammate Edwin Del Cid scored early in the second half.

“We scored one in the first half on a free kick, a nice kick,” Basalt head coach Brent Hayes said. “Thenk we got one more early in the second half to go up 2-0.”

Roaring Fork cut the lead to one in the nonleague match.

“They put in a really nice goal, and we just basically held on from there,” Hayes said.

The Basalt head coach said he was pleased with the team’s overall performance against a strong, skilled Roaring Fork team.

“We played a pressure game against a really good team,” Hayes said, adding that the Rams are outstanding on set pieces.

“I think our guys showed as good as they have all year,” he said after the Longhorns bounced back from a frustrating 1-0 loss at Rifle on Tuesday night.

“This was really good for us to get a win against such a quality program,” Hayes said of the Basalt boys, 3-4-0 overall.

The Longhorns will host Grand Valley (0-7) at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Basalt High School soccer field.
