Basalt boys bounced by No. 1 CS Christian

Aspen Times Staff Report

The Basalt boys basketball team was bounced from the Class 3A state tournament Friday in a 64-46 first-round loss to No. 1 seed Colorado Springs Christian School.

But the undefeated CSCS – now 24-0 – was a bit surprised by No. 32 seed BHS during Friday’s game at their gym, said Basalt coach Mike Green.

“Considering they score pretty close to 75 to 80 points a game and hold a lot of the other teams to 20 and 30, we came out and felt pretty good about the way things ended,” Green said.

Though the Longhorns were discouraged by their opponents’ impressive record, Green noted that the boys played well early. CSCS took a lead into halftime, and maintained it.

“I think they came out feeling respectable,” Green said. “Considering, last year, we didn’t even get to districts, the opportunity to get to the first round of regionals was a good way to end the year on an up note.”

Seniors Kyle Kappeli and Ryan Thompson led Basalt with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

The Longhorns ended their season at 8-15.
