Basalt boys basketball No. 4 in RPI
The Colorado High School Activities Association on Wednesday released the first official RPI standings for the winter prep season, and the Basalt High School boys basketball team found itself sitting pretty.
The Longhorns, ranked No. 10 in Class 3A by voters, are ranked No. 4 in the classification by the mathematically-calculated ratings percentage index. RPI is the main formula used to determine the postseason field.
The only teams ahead of Basalt are top-ranked Sterling, No. 2 Manitou Springs and No. 3 Resurrection Christian. Roaring Fork (7-2) is No. 18, while Aspen (5-4) is No. 42 in the 72-team class.
BHS (8-1) has won eight straight since a season-opening loss to Del Norte, RPI No. 7 in Class 2A.
On the girls’ side, Roaring Fork is No. 51, Basalt No. 59 and Aspen No. 63 out of 69 teams.
Basalt is next scheduled to host Delta on Saturday, while the Skiers play at Lake County on Friday before hosting Moffat County on Saturday.
The Aspen High School hockey team (3-5-1) enters the initial RPI rankings No. 19 out of 32 teams. The Skiers host Heritage (RPI 16) on Friday and Cheyenne Mountain (RPI 20) on Saturday.
