Basalt baseball tops Aspen

The Basalt High School baseball team rallied in the late innings to beat valley rival Aspen 6-2 this week.

The Longhorns took the lead in the sixth inning when Griffen Jenkins drove in the go-ahead run.

Anders Brucker had singled. He scored on Jenkins’ hit.

Miles Levy led the Basalt offense. He scored twice and had an RBI-single in the sixth inning.

Basalt is 6-10 overall, 5-7 in the Western Slope League.

Aspen took an early lead in the Western Slope League game. Tristan Niskanen drove in the Skiers’ first run.

He scored the second run on an RBI-single from Charlier Guilander.

But Raul Torres shut down the Skiers from there. He pitched three scoreless innings, with no walks and five strikeouts.

The Longhorns will close the regular season with a home doubleheader Saturday against Olathe, starting at 11 a.m.

The Aspen Skiers (5-9 overall, 4-7 in league) will play a doubleheader at Grand Valley on Saturday. They will travel to Craig to play Moffat County on Monday to close the regular season.
