The Basalt High School baseball team improved to 3-0 to start the season with a 19-6 win over Grand Valley on Thursday.

The Longhorns trailed 5-2 in the third when the offense broke out with eight runs.

Cody Banc doubled to center to start the rally. He stole third base and scored on Noah Schoenberger’s fielder’s choice.

Later in the inning, Banc homered over the left-field wall.

In the fourth inning, Schoenberger began the nine-run inning with a triple to center field.

He scored when Tim Johnson singled to left field.

Schoenberger, facing his second at-bat in the inning, hit a line drive home run over the left-field wall.

Basalt had several other players contribute to the offensive surge.

Cody Hoffman went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Johnson, Nick Calabro, Michael Glenn, Mark Barto and Adrian Lujan all singled.

Carlos Leal scored three times.

“The two home runs really sparked our offense,” Basalt head coach Bud Hickman said. “I was proud of how the team rallied from behind to win the game.”

The Longhorns are scheduled to host Cedaredge in a conference doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. today.
