Aspen’s Midgets have strong showing in Fall Face Off

This weekend and next, Aspen Junior Hockey will host the Fall Face Off tournament at the Aspen Recreational Center. More than 100 teams from Colorado and Wyoming are competing in this year’s event, which kicked off last weekend. During the first three days, the Aspen Midget Major team won the championship in the field of eight teams for the first time in years, defeating Vail, Glenwood and Foothills. It also avenged Aspen High School’s loss to Machebeuf in last season’s state tournament before falling to a strong team from Denver in the championship game. No. 6 Machebeuf beat the No. 3 Skiers, 4-1, in the quarterfinal round on Feb. 19. Aspen’s Pee Wee team also made it to the championship game.Local restaurants and hotels have accommodated the players, coaches and family members, said Jackie Ayers, administrative assistant for Aspen Junior Hockey.
