Aspen’s Klug is top American in Austria
Aspen, CO ColoradoAspen’s Chris Klug stormed into a World Cup parallel slalom final Wednesday in Bad Gastein, Austria, and finished 13th to lead the Americans in the first of two makeup races.
Austrian Siegried Grabner took first for the second time this year. Swiss brothers Simon and Philipp Schoch finished second and third, respectively.Klug has advanced to the finals in both World Cup parallel slalom events this year; he took 16th Oct. 13 in Landgraaf, Netherlands. Wednesday’s result is his best World Cup finish of the year. He finished 23rd in parallel giant slalom Dec. 13 in San Viglio di Marebbe, Italy, and 21st in the same discipline Oct. 22 in Solden, Austria.
Just days after celebrating his 34th birthday Nov. 18, Klug took third in a Continental Cup parallel giant slalom Nov. 21 at Copper Mountain.
Klug will have another chance to extend his finals streak today when Bad Gastien hosts another parallel slalom. The event will take the place of a cancelled race in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.Tyler Jewell of Sudbury, Mass. – the lone alpine U.S. snowboard representative at the 2006 Winter Olympics – was 26th Wednesday, and Justin Reiter of Steamboat Springs took 36th.
