Aspen’s Dolores Sharaf qualifies for state golf tourney
The Aspen Times
Aspen High School golfer Dolores Sharaf is going to state.
Sharaf placed near the top of the field last weekend at the Class 4A Regional Championships at Adobe Creek National Golf course in Fruita.
Her round of 89 at Adobe Creek National earned her a trip to the 4A State Golf Championships in Colorado Springs next weekend. The state championships will be played at the Country Club of Colorado.
“It was a good year for us,” veteran AHS golf coach Alden Richard said. “We’re always dealing with the uncertainties of spring weather.”
He said the Aspen golfers were dedicated all season.
The Skiers as a team finished seventh in the regionals.
Montrose dominated, winning with a 246.
Durango finished second with a 262.
Third went to Eagle Valley (279). The Devils were followed by No. 4 Rifle (282), No. 5 Moffat County (283), No. 6 Palisade (285) and Aspen one stroke back at 286.
Montrose qualified its whole team for the 4A state tournament.
The top 10 golfers not affiliated with Montrose also qualified, including Aspen’s Sharaf.
Zara Iacono shot a 94 for Aspen.
Julie Budsey shot 103. Christie Bucholz shot a 104 at Adobe Creek National.
“The girls did a good job this year,” Richard said. “I’m proud of their effort.”
