Aspen Valley Marathon on Rio Grande Trail on Saturday

The Rio Grande Trail will be busy today.

The Aspen Valley Marathon, a 26-mile route from Aspen to Basalt via the Rio Grande Trail, will take off in downtown Aspen at 6 a.m. today.

Runners will work their way to the midvalley for the marathon and half-marathon.

The start will be at Wagner Park and the finish will be at Basalt Lions Park.

The half-marathon is set to start at 7:30 a.m. at W/J Ranch near Woody Creek. Finish will be at the same location at Basalt Lions Park.

There also will be a 5K race, with a 10 a.m. start at Basalt Lions Park. The finish will be at the park, as well.

The marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier race.

The Aspen Valley Marathon was established in 2010 by Katherine Fitzgerald, a longtime runner. She partnered with Sean Solon to produce the marathon, half-marathon and 5K.

Chuck Engle won the men’s marathon last year in 2:44:48.

Carolyn Warren won the women’s marathon in 3:10:45.
