Aspen Triathlon, Duathlon offer multiple choices for Roaring Fork Valley athletes
The Aspen Times
These are trying times.
Tri-ing times, too.
The annual Zoot Aspen Triathlon/Duathlon will make its return Saturday.
Sponsored by the Aspen Parks and Recreation Department, the Aspen Triathlon/Duathlon is a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event.
Participants must be USA Triathlon members or purchase a single-event permit to compete in the Aspen Tri.
Single-event permits will be available with race entry fees and forms.
There also are relays in each of the races, which include a duathlon with an aquabike ride as the second event.
There also is a duathlon run/ride/run that features a run to start, followed by the bike ride, followed by another run.
Registration information is available at aspenrecreation.com.
Officials reminded interested participants that the event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon.
Anyone entering must be an annual member. Or single-event permits must be purchased.
For more information or to secure USA Triathlon membership, contact the USA Triathlon offices in Colorado Springs at 719-597-9090.
The triathlon is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. at the Aspen Recreation Center complex, the base for the Saturday events.
The duathlon (run/bike/run) will start at 7:10 a.m.
The duathlon (swim/aquabike) will begin with the early swim times.
For the triathlon, the swim will be 800 yards. That’s 32 lengths in a 25-yard pool. There will be six lanes with four swimmers per lane.
The bike section will feature a 17-mile ride up to Maroon Bells and back.
Helmets are required.
The run portion is a 4-mile course beginning and ending at the ARC. The duathlon run/bike/run will open with a 2-mile run on a paved and dirt trail around the ARC. The 4-mile run will finish the run/bike/run duathlon.
Participants will be seeded based on previous swim times.
There will be age-group awards to the top three male and female finishers in a variety of categories. Participants must be at least 15 years of age.
Parking for the event is available across the street at the Aspen School District campus.
Packet pickup will be at Marmot Aspen between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday. That’s at 210 S. Galena.
