The Aspen High boys soccer team tied Eagle Valley 2-2 in a non-league match Thursday afternoon at the AHS field.Aspen took a 2-nil lead into halftime, with goals from sophomore Stephen Buzbee and junior Carlos Rojas, but the Skiers couldn’t hang on in the second half.

Eagle Valley answered with two goals of their own in the second 40 minute half, and the teams remained deadlocked during two overtime periods.”We should’ve had 10 goals in the first half,” said Aspen coach Grant “Junior” Sutherland. “But it’s the story of our lives, and we just couldn’t get that third goal.”The kids are tired,” he continued. “Three games in four days – they have nothing left.”

Sutherland singled out sophomore Ryder Fyrwald and junior Sam Harder for top performances. “They were probably the two best players on the park today,” he said.Junior Fred Bernard played in goal for Aspen.

Aspen (4-6-1 overall and 1-5 in Class 3A Western Slope League play) is off until Tuesday’s home game against league rival Roaring Fork at 4 p.m. Aspen hosts CRMS next Thursday, also at 4 p.m.Aspen needs to win both of those games to remain in contention for a state playoff berth.”I’m giving the boys the weekend off and hopefully we can come back out charged up,” Sutherland said.
