The Aspen Speedos will splash at home this weekend.
The local junior swim team will host the annual Aspen Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the pool at the Aspen Recreation Center (ARC).
The two-day event is a popular early season competition for teams from throughout the Western Slope and Colorado.
Gordon Gerson, head coach of the Aspen Speedos, said the meet this year will feature 10 different swim teams.
More than 200 individual swimmers are expected as the ARC pool is transformed into a beehive of competitive activity today and Sunday.
Swim events will start at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Swimming will continue all day Saturday.
On Sunday, the competition will wrap up in midafternoon.
The Speedos, led by Gerson, traditionally field one of the largest squads in the summer competition season.
The Aspen Speedos opened the summer at the Sopris Challenge meet in Glenwood Springs.
Swimmers there swam combinations of events in a unique scoring format.
This weekend, traditional scoring will be used for the Aspen Invitational.
The public is invited to the ARC pool area for the weekend junior swim meet.
