Aspen Mountain will reopen with gondola, three lifts

Aspen Mountain will fire up the Silver Queen Gondola and three chairlifts for its reopening this weekend, Aspen Skiing Co. announced Wednesday.

The ski area was scheduled to close for the season on Easter Sunday, but Skico decided to reopen for the next two weekends to celebrate the deep snowpack. May 3 and 4 will be the last days of lift-served skiing.

The Ajax Express, FIS and Ruthie’s chairlifts will be open along with the gondola this weekend. Skico will open as much terrain as possible. The hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The late season should be true spring skiing with good coverage,” Rich Burkley, Skico vice president mountain operations, said in a statement. “This has been what I call a charmed season — we opened early and strong and stayed that way until mid-April.”

Aspen-Snowmass has received more than 300 inches of snow this season. This season has seen consistent snowfall and excellent coverage since the resort opened early in November. More terrain opened early and stayed open through the season than any season in recent years.

All Aspen-Snowmass season passes are valid as they are during the regular season. Double Flex and Flex passholders can redeem both weekend days as a part of the pass they’ve already purchased and do not need to pay any additional funds to ski or ride.

The Adult Classic Passholders rate is $29. Child/Youth and College Classic passes will cost $21 and passholders from any other resorts can present their pass for a $39 rate. For updates, visit
