Aspen hockey heads to Summit

The Aspen High School hockey team will take its show on the road this weekend.

The Skiers, who opened the regular season with a 4-1 win over Steamboat Springs on Tuesday, will head to Summit County for Friday’s 5:15 p.m. game against Summit High School.

The game will be played at Stephen C. West Ice Arena in Breckenridge.



The Skiers also will play on the road Saturday. They will take on rival Battle Mountain at Dobson Arena in Vail.

That game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.




The Aspen High School hockey team, under first-year head coach Dru Lucchesi, scored two first-period goals to trigger the win over visiting Steamboat Springs.

Zac Mencimer scored Aspen’s first goal of the season.

Captain Harry Ferguson scored the second goal.

Victor Dunn added a shorthanded goal for the Skiers in the second period when they were down two players to penalty.

Tyler Tick scored the fourth goal for Aspen (1-0-0).

Evan Morris was in goal for the Skiers.

The Aspen boys will return home for a game Dec. 13 against Air Academy at Lewis Ice Arena. Start time is 4 p.m.

Aspen will host powers Cherry Creek and Regis Jesuit on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, also at Lewis Ice Arena.

The AHS early season roster includes Andy Vernier, Trey Robinson, Jordan Cottrell, Connor Peirce, RJ Peshek, Nick Cottrell, Charlie VanAllen, Ross Pingatore, Garrett McNichol, Scout Engbring, Ryan Fitzgerald, Burke Daily and Anders Brucker.
