Aspen High Nordic teams fourth, sixth in latest races

The Aspen High School Nordic ski team competed in a 5-kilometer skate race Saturday in Tennessee Pass.

The Skier girls took fourth in a field of 12 teams with 140 points. Vail Mountain was first with 172 points, followed by Colorado Rocky Mountain School (162 points) and Lake County (145 points).

Vail Mountain’s Maddie Donovan won the girls’ race in 20 minutes, 22 seconds, followed in second by Aspen’s Chelsea Moore (21:38). AHS’s Adair Pattillo also had a top-20 finish in the 107-skier field, taking 20th in 24:53.

The Aspen boys took sixth with 121 points in a field of 13 teams. Vail Mountain was again the winner with 167 points, followed by Battle Mountain (160 points) and Summit (155 points).

Middle Park’s Tyler Scholl won the boys’ race in 18:08, while VMS’s Eric Zdechlik was second in 18:37. Aspen’s top finisher was Everett Olson, who was seventh in 19:15.

The Skiers next compete Jan. 28. This weekend, Aspen will host a pair of Rocky Mountain Nordic junior national qualifiers.
