Aspen High hockey season ends with overtime loss to Battle Mountain
The Aspen High School hockey team had its season come to a close Wednesday night after a 2-1 overtime loss to Battle Mountain in Eagle.
The first-round state playoff game was the third meeting of the season between the teams. The Huskies won 4-0 at the Eagle Ice Rink on Dec. 3, the second game of the season, before the teams tied 1-1 on Jan. 6 in Aspen.
The Skiers led Wednesday’s playoff game 1-0 after a period following a goal from Reece Cohan. Battle Mountain responded with a goal in the second period, and neither team scored in the third to send the game to overtime.
There, Battle Mountain’s Keaton Fedrizzi scored the game-winner to send the Huskies into the next round.
Battle Mountain (13-3-3), the No. 14 seed, will play at No. 3 seed Cherry Creek on Friday.
Aspen, which was the No. 19 seed in the state tournament, finishes the season 8-11-1 overall.
