Aspen High golf finishes fourth at 19-team tourney

The Aspen High boys golf team finished fourth out of 19 teams at a high school tournament at Battlement Mesa Golf Course hosted by Grand Valley High School last Thursday.

Aspen’s Jake Smith shot a 6-over-par 78, and teammates Teddy Karlinski and Colin Sledge shot 79 and 83, respectively, to give Aspen a 240 team score.

Montrose’s Eric Lundberg was the low medalist on the day with a 1-over-par 73.

Montrose also won the team title with a combined score of 232. Rifle was second (237), followed by Steamboat Springs and Fruita Monument tied for third (239), then Aspen.

Later this week, Aspen opens play at the regional tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the state championship.
