Aspen High girls golf wins opening tournament

Staff report

The Aspen High School girls golf team, in spite of a snowy preseason, is off to a fast start.

The Skiers opened the season with a team tournament, the Palisade Invitational, held at Chipeta Golf Course earlier this week.

And the Skiers opened the season with a victory in the scramble portion of the event.

“We shot a team score of 62 on the par-60 course,” said head coach Donald Buchholz, who took over as the head coach this season after sharing coaching duties with Alden Richards for the last four years.

He said the AHS players at Palisade were Dolores Sharaf, Katherine Doherty, Nikki Blizzard and Katy Miller.

The Skiers next will compete in the Montrose Invitational on March 17 at Cobble Creek. The event is a regional-qualifying tournament.

Aspen High School athletic director John Bangley helped direct the Skiers to their inaugural victory of the 2015 season at Palisade.
