Aspen golfers finish 2nd at Battle Mountain Invite
The Aspen High School boys golf team finished second Tuesday in the annual Battle Mountain Invite at Eagle/Vail.
The Skiers posted a total of 247, six strokes behind team champion and host Battle Mountain (241).
Montrose and Fruita Monument tied for third at 249. Rifle finished fifth (251), with Vail Christian sixth (256).
Vail Mountain was seventh, ahead of Moffat County, Summit County, Gunnison and Eagle Valley.
Cooper Gould, of Vail Christian, won medalist honors with a 76 on Tuesday. Taylor Peel, of Battle Mountain, shot a 77 for second place.
Aspen senior Clayton Crawford finished two strokes back in third place, tied with Troy Dangler, of Fruita Monument.
Crawford won the season-opening tournament at Battlement Mesa and finished second in a playoff Monday at Lakota Canyon (New Castle).
Will Hazen posted an 81 for the Skiers. Teammate Patrick Martin shot 87 for the AHS second-place team total.
Trey Robinson (104) and Tye Zasacky (106) also played for Aspen.
The Skiers will continue their busy schedule of four tournaments in four days with the annual Eagle Valley Invite at Gypsum Creek today. Gypsum Creek will be the host site of the regional championships next month.
The Aspen boys golf team will play at the Rifle Invite at Rifle Creek on Thursday.
