Aspen golfer third at Pueblo

Jack Hughes of Aspen Middle School played his way to a third-place finish in the first Colorado Junior Golf Association tournament of the year last weekend near Pueblo.

Hughes competed in a field of 37 junior golfers in the Pueblo Spring Championship at Desert Hawk Golf Club in Pueblo West.

Playing in driving rain and gusty winds, Hughes shot a second-round 78 to finish third by two shots on the demanding 6,328-yard course.

Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins shot 75-75—149 to win the tournament by eight strokes over Micah Stangebye of Montrose (77-80—157).

Hughes opened with an 81 and followed with his second-round 78 to finish at 159.
