Aspen girls lacrosse winning streak ends in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION – The season-opening hot streak for the Aspen High School girls lacrosse team ended Friday afternoon in Grand Junction.

The Tigers (3-0) took a lead in the first half and rolled to a 19-7 victory over the Skiers.

Grand Junction, with a flurry of early goals, led 12-6 at halftime, and the Tigers potted seven more goals in the second half.

Halle Harrison led Grand Junction with five goals, while Kacie Jay added four goals and Christina Sewell scored three times for the unbeaten Tigers. Megan Gromke and Delaney Robinon scored two goals each for Grand Junction.

Scoring information for Aspen was not available Friday night.

The loss was the first of the season for the Skiers (2-1). They opened the year with back-to-back victories over Steamboat Springs and Battle Mountain, beating Steamboat 15-6 and defeating the Huskies by 15-4.

Aspen will extend its long road trip with a Mountain League game Saturday morning at Durango (0-3).

The Demons were scheduled to play their first home game Friday night against Fruita Monument.
