Back to back.

The Aspen Lacrosse Club U13 girls team took home top honors at the Denver Lacrosse Jamboree last weekend, winning the tournament title for the second consecutive year.

The Denver Lacrosse Jamboree is billed as the largest lacrosse tournament in the world — the Denver Lax Jam.

The Aspen girls beat the Denver Mustangs in the championship game in their division. Trailing 4-1 at the half, Aspen rallied with strong defensive play by Emma Rose Brown, Tyler Greene, Sophie Kirkwood and Mary Tarver Reid.

Goalies Lexi Ferlisi and Olivia Carr shut down the aggressive Mustang offense.

The Aspen attack, led by Sabrina Turbidy, Katie Yocum, Bebe Lowrance , Elsa Cassidy, Claudia Smart, India Cardamone, Taya Mishel, and Bliss Pekkala put points on the board with help from midfielders Louise McDonald, Ava Lasselette, Juna Rettig and Mary Williams.

Aspen took the lead 5-4 early in the second half and never looked back, winning 7-5.

“The girls were so fired up for this game,” said coach Jessica Owings. “We had lost once to this team, so they knew they had to fight. So much of lacrosse boils down to mental toughness, and these girls found their ‘fire from within.’”
