The Aspen Cycling Club will go wild this week with the annual Emma Roubaix.

“As the name implies, a variety of road surfaces, including pavement, dirt and gravel highlight this challenging road route,” said Mike Maple, president of the Aspen Cycling Club. “This is an exciting race course that has become a classic in the summer series.”

The Aspen Cycling Club weekly races are held at 6 pm. on Wednesdays. This week, the race will start in Emma.

Registration also is in Emma.

Maple said that from the start at the Emma school, the cyclists will race up Emma Road to the intersection with East and West Sopris Creek roads. Cyclists will go left onto East Sopris.

“The paved road gives way to a mag chloride-treated dirt surface about a mile up East Sopris Creek and continues on dirt until the crest of the divide into Capital Creek,” Maple said.

At the intersection with Capitol Creek Road, all of the riders will take a sharp right and climb Capital Creek Road for 4.5 miles to the turnaround past the monastery.

Cyclists will come back down Capitol Creek Road to the intersection with Snowmass Creek Road, where riders will bear right onto Snowmass Creek Road.

The finish will be at Shield-O Road.

“The course for all riders is approximately 21.4 miles with 2,400 feet of elevation gain,” Maple said.

Riders are encouraged to warm up by parking at the Old Snowmass Park and Ride lot and riding the Rio Grande Trail to the start.

Club members and guests are invited to participate. Registration is available at the start and on the cycling club website at Entry fee is $5 for ACC members, $10 or nonmembers.
