Staff report

The Aspen HIgh School boys tennis team tasted elite competition last weekend at the annual Western Slope Invitational in Grand Junction.

The Skiers finished eighth out of 16 teams — mostly Class 5A schools.

The tournament was won by Denver East with 191 points.

Regis Jesuit was second (185) and Mountain Vista was third (177).

Aspen was the highest finishing Class 3A school with 106 points.

Top finishers for Aspen included the No. 4 doubles team of Cory Batel and Cooper Helm, who finished fourth.

No. 1 singles player Dillon Leasure of the Skiers won the consolation bracket.

The No. 3 doubles team of Alexander Reagan and Andy Venier also won the consolation title this week.

Aspen will travel to Grand Junction again Thursday for matches against Grand Junction High School and Fruita Monument High School.
