ASPEN – The postseason begins Thursday for the boys basketball teams at Aspen and Basalt high schools.

The Skiers, the No. 2 seed from the regular season, will host No. 7 Cedaredge at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Aspen High School gym.

The Basalt boys, the No. 4 seed, will host No. 5 Grand Valley at 7 p.m.

The Aspen boys beat Cedaredge twice during the regular season en route to a 16-3 overall record, 14-2 in the Western Slope League. They are ranked among the top eight Class 3A teams by coloradopreps.com and The Denver Post.

The Skiers won 61-47 at Cedaredge in mid-December. Aspen won at home 52-40 on Feb. 2.

The Basalt and Grand Valley boys split their two league games.

The Longhorns (7-12, 6-10) won 57-49 at home back in December. The Cardinals (6-13, 6-10) won 50-36 at Parachute three weeks ago.

The girls tournament for the Western Slope League also plays quarterfinals Thursday.

The Basalt girls (2-18, 1-15), who beat Aspen in a play-in game Tuesday night, will travel to Craig to play the league-champion Moffat County Bulldogs (16-3, 15-1).

In other girls quarterfinals Thursday, No. 4 Roaring Fork (11-8, 11-5) will host No. 5 Coal Ridge (10-9, 9-7), No. 2 Olathe (15-4, 13-3) will host No. 7 Gunnison (3-12, 3-15), and No. 3 Grand Valley (14-5, 12-4) will host No. 6 Cedaredge (7-12, 6-10).

After Thursday’s games, the Western Slope League Tournament will move to Palisade High School on Friday and Saturday.
