Aspen, Basalt girls soccer win first-round playoff games, play Saturday
The Aspen and Basalt High School girls soccer teams each survived their first test of the Class 3A state tournament on Friday.
Basalt, seeded No. 19, rolled over No. 14 seed Salida, 4-0. The Longhorns will play at 1 p.m. Saturday at No. 3 seed Manitou Springs, which hosted Friday’s game, in the second round. The Mustangs, 14-1 overall, haven’t lost since falling 2-0 at Jefferson Academy on March 21 in their fourth game of the season.
Aspen, seeded No. 21, knocked off No. 12 seed Middle Park 2-1 in a game played in Lafayette. The two teams had also played May 5 in the final game of the regular season, Middle Park winning 3-1 in Granby. That loss snapped a seven-game win streak for the Skiers.
Aspen moves on to play at No. 5 seed Peak to Peak (12-2-1) at 11 a.m. Saturday.
