Aspen, Basalt baseball all-stars honored

The all-star honors keep rolling in.
The Aspen and Basalt high school baseball teams were honored this week with the announcement of the 2016 Western Slope League all-stars in Class 3A.
The Skiers and the Longhorns landed players on the all-league first team as well as the honorable mention squad, in voting by the league’s coaches.
Aspen sophomore Jamison Fuentes and senior Tristan Niskanen were voted to the all-league first team.
Aspen’s Harry Kahn, a junior, was named to the honorable mention squad.
For Basalt, junior Michael Glen and junior Anders Brucker were named to the all-conference team this season.
In addition, Basalt’s Griffin Jenkins, a sophomore, was listed on the honorable mention team.
Kahn hit .359 for the 6-11 Skiers this year. He also drove in 11 runs, tying Fuentes for the team lead.
Fuentes hit .320 and had a team-high 16 hits for Aspen.
Niskanen hit .341 and had 14 hits.
Mike Glen hit .463 for the 7-11 Basalt Longhorns.
Brucker hit .436 and drove in a team-high 15 runs.
Jenkins drove in 13 for the Longhorns, while hitting .304.
Tyler Percival of Gunnison was voted the conference player of the year.
Tom Percival, also of Gunnison, was named the league’s coach of the year.
Other first-team picks this season included Brady Wilson, Ian Turner, Josh Wallin, Colby Archuleta and Brevin Book of Gunnison; Rafael Nieto, Trent Rose and Jacob Mazza of Olathe; Johnie Parker and Jared Radel of Grand Valley; Brett Loyd, Mike Bingham, Spencer Turner and Colby Beckett of Moffat County; Nathan Nelson, Jake Solinger, Hunter Gerber, Caleb Maynard, Tyler Slone, Raymond Budd and Mike Bingham of Coal Ridge; Drew Broadhurst of Roaring Fork.
