The ABA Elite Travel Team from Aspen won the championship at the annual New Castle Seventh-Grade Tournament.
The team, coached by Steve Ketchum, went 4-0 in the tournament last weekend at Coal Ridge High School near New Castle. They defeated host New Castle in the championship game.
“We were the youngest seventh-grade travel team,” Ketchum said. The team included a sixth-grader (Tyler Ward), a fourth-grader (Rocky Ketchum) and a third-grader (Dre’ Ketchum).
Four of the Ketchum boys played on the team.
Their father, the former longtime coach at Aspen High School, will be the head boys basketball coach at Ponderosa High School in Parker next year.
“It’s been a great four month-long traveling season of basketball, and we are proud to finish as tourney champs in our last tournament of the year,” Ketchum said.
