Physical play fueled tempers and a victory for Air Force Academy’s undefeated hockey team Saturday night, as the Kadets beat Aspen High 6-3 at the ARC’s Lewis Ice Arena. The Skiers hung with the 6-0 Air Academy through two periods, with the score locked at 3-3 heading into the final period. But Air Academy played the body as much as the puck in the third and their dominating style of play led to three goals in just over three minutes.

Aspen squandered two power plays with a two-man advantage in the final period. Tempers eventually flared and a retaliation from an Aspen player led to a series of penalties for both teams. Aspen head coach Bryan Ganz could not be reached for comment.

The Skiers (4-2) beat Colorado Academy 4-1 on Friday night in their home opener. On Saturday night, junior Tyler Doremus shined with two goals, while David Goldberg picked up the other.

Aspen is off until Jan. 7-8, when they play back-to-back road games at Wasson and Rampart. Aspen’s next home game is Jan. 14 against Cheyenne Mountain.
