AHS and BHS b-ballers to open districts
The first round of the Class 3A Western Slope League District Tournament gets under way tonight with Aspen High and Basalt High boys and girls teams in the hunt.The No. 4 seed Aspen High girls (6-6 in league, 11-8 overall) host rival Basalt, the No. 5 seed (6-6, 7-12), tonight at 7 p.m. at the AHS gym. The winner advances to the final four of the 3A WSL district tournament – along with No. 1 Roaring Fork, which drew a bye – slated for this weekend at Palisade High School near Grand Junction.On the boys’ side, the No. 2 seed Basalt High boys (8-4, 10-9) host No. 7 Hotchkiss (2-9, 4-13) tonight at 7 p.m. at the BHS gym. Basalt is coming off a loss to Hotchkiss in their regular-season finale on the road Saturday.The Aspen High boys, the No. 5 seed (3-8, 4-14), hit the road to face No. 4 Cedaredge (6-6, 11-8), also tonight.The Roaring Fork boys, like the Ram girls, won the league title and the accompanying automatic berth to the final four of the 3A WSL district tourney. The Ram boys are 12-0 in league play and 16-3 overall. Similar to the girls division, the three winners from tonight’s first-round games (No. 2 vs. No. 7, No. 3 vs. No. 6, and No. 4 vs. No. 5) advance to join Roaring Fork in the district tourney final four this weekend in Palisade.
World Cup sliding events set to make return to Park City this winter, first since pandemic
The track at the Utah Olympic Park will be put to good use toward the tail end of 2022. The Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cups stop at the UOP from Nov. 28 through Dec. 4, and then the Luge World Cup from Dec. 15 to Dec. 17.
