ASPEN ” Former Aspenite Jeremy Abbott, who finished fourth at February’s U.S. Figure Skating National Championships, will again headline the Aspen Skating Club’s spring show.
This year’s program is scheduled for May 5 at the Aspen Recreation Center, with performances at 4 and 7 p.m.
Abbott will also host a silent auction to support his Boys Fund ” which helps offset costs for young skaters. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Aspen Skating Club’s competitors fund.
Current auction items include two round-trip tickets on Frontier Airlines, two nights at the JW Mariott Cherry Creek in Denver, two nights at the historic Broadmoor and dinner for two at the award-winning Summit, one night at the four-star Cliff House in Manitou Springs and VIP passes to Pikes Peak Country Attractions, including the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and a bottle of wine from the Fleming- Jenkins Winery signed by Olympic champion, Peggy Fleming.
Last year’s silent auction raised more than $ 3,000 for the funds. For more information on the spring show, contact Teri Hooper at hoopertk@comcast.net.

Led by Maley, Basalt’s six-member track and field team shines at state meet
Katelyn Maley could have led the charge from start to finish, but sometimes waiting to make your move is a better strategy. The Basalt High School junior did just that on Saturday when she won the Class 3A girls 800-meter race at the state meet at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.
