Town announces its new tourism director

Staff report
Snowmass Sun

The town of Snowmass Village has announced Yan Baczkowski as the new director of Snowmass Tourism starting July 15.

Baczkowski is a seasoned destination-management-organization professional with more than 20 years of experience working for various public and private tourism-development organizations both in the U.S. and Europe. Born in upstate New York in the Catskill Mountains, his passion for the mountains brought him to his previous position of chief executive officer for Verbier St. Bernard in Switzerland, a post he held for three years.

“I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to bring my experience and extensive network of professional contacts to Snowmass Village to reinforce the winter season, develop the summer and shoulder seasons and further develop our notoriety in both established and emerging markets,” Baczkowski said.

The Snowmass Tourism director reports to Town Manager Russ Forrest administratively but also gives progress updates to and receives feedback from the Marketing, Special Events and Group Sales Board.

“Yan brings an incredible international perspective to Snowmass Village and has a wealth of experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders to put a mountain resort on the map — no matter the season,” Forrest said. “He inherits a strong team of dedicated staff, and we’re all eager to see what this winning combination brings to our community.”

Susan Hamley, Snowmass Tourism’s first director, resigned after 10 years in the position on April 14.
