Snowmass pedestrian hit by car

A pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing Brush Creek Road in Snowmass Village on Monday afternoon.
The 19-year-old Carbondale resident reportedly disembarked a Roaring Fork Transportation Authority bus at Town Park Station and passed between two buses before stepping out onto the road in a location where there is no crosswalk, said Snowmass Police Chief Brian Olson.
The man was struck by a vehicle traveling downvalley on Brush Creek Road and was transported to Aspen Valley Hospital.
Olson did not know the extent of the man’s injuries.
The driver stopped his car and remained at the site of the accident, Olson said. After talking to witnesses, officers believe he was driving slightly below the speed limit.
The motorist was not issued any citation, and Olson said he doesn’t anticipate that changing. The department hasn’t determined whether it will cite the pedestrian, although Olson said he doesn’t expect to.
“I think he lost out on this no matter how you look at it,” Olson said.
Olson wanted to remind the public to be aware of variables whether using roads as drivers or pedestrians. Motorists should particularly be mindful of people unloading and loading buses at stations throughout the valley.
“And like we all learned when we were young, look both ways,” he said.
