The Aspen Times reported on the Subaru Series for women’s professional ski racing in 1983. “Mary Mathews survived a day-long battle against the elements and 15 other hot racers to win the Subaru Series slalom last Friday at Snowmass. On her way to victory, Mathews, a rookie on the women’s pro ski racing tour, defeated Toril Forland, tour champion three of the last four years and victor in four of this year’s six races — including Thursday’s giant slalom at Snowmass. The Subaru Series winds up with races today and tomorrow at Buttermilk.”
