Skico creates opening-weekend event for Snowmass
Snowmass and Aspen Mountain open on Thanksgiving Day followed up by a weekend of events including the new Thanksjibbing rail jam and the first Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert of the season, featuring Elephant Revival.
“Opening weekend is always an exciting time for this community,” said John Rigney, vice president of sales and events for Aspen Skiing Co. “We’re happy to kick off the year with some fun events and great live music available to locals and guests alike.”
Thanksjibbing is a ski and snowboard rail-jam competition featuring top regional riders and will be in Snowmass Base Village at 2 p.m. on Nov. 29. Skiers and snowboarders will compete for a cash purse in the invite-only event. Thanksjibbing will include a 45-minute jam session followed by a 20-minute final, according to Skico’s website.
The first Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert of the season, featuring Elephant Revival, will start at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 in the upper Gondola Plaza at the base of Aspen Mountain. Elephant Revival, a quintet from Nederland, mixes bluegrass with gypsy, rock, Celtic, psychedelic country and folk sounds and has shared the stage with big acts such as Dispatch, Michael Franti, Leftover Salmon and Yonder Mountain String Band. The Ajax Tavern will have a beer garden with $4 Bud and Bud Light specials throughout the event. The series will include six free concerts throughout the winter season.
