Aspen Skiing Co. announced last week that it has added a 50-kilometer ultra-trail-running race over all four company ski areas to its Power of Four series.

The race, set for Aug. 4, will begin at the base of Aspen Mountain, peak at the Sundeck and follow single- and double-track trails through Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass before finishing in Snowmass Base Village. The event will be the third installment in the Power of Four series, which already includes ski-mountaineering and bike races across the four mountains.

“We love this trail-running addition to our Power of Four series,” said John Rigney, Skico vice president of sales and events. “It fits in nicely with our existing endurance events and will offer an amazing backcountry feel to both competitive and recreational trail runners.”

The Power of Four Mountain Bike Race will take place the same weekend, on Aug. 3.

The trail-running race will feature a solo and relay category. The solo category will be a full 50-kilometer for each individual. The relay will be for teams of two, with one leg from the base of Aspen Mountain to the base of Tiehack and the second leg from the base of Tiehack to the finish in Snowmass.

Registration is $75 for the solo and $95 for the relay if registered before July 28. Registration is available online until 5 p.m. Aug. 1, with on-site registration on Aug. 2. No race-day registration will be offered. Sign up at http://www.aspensnowmass.com/power-of-four-50k.
