Snowmass history: Forest Service classes on ski area
“FS course here in ski planning to attract 42 men,” The Aspen Times reported Jan. 15, 1965. “Forty-two people from Alaska and throughout the country will attend a Forest Service-sponsored school in ski area administration here Jan. 31 through Feb. 4. Representatives of the Forest Service as well as the National Ski Patrol and other skiing organizations are included in the group. A feature of the course is a review of the planning for the proposed 10,000-acre Snowmass development. Students will tour the area as well as receive briefings on the lift construction and trail-cutting program. Aspen District Ranger Harry Taylor said the visitors will attend classroom sessions at the Seminar Building. They will stay at the Aspen Meadows. On Feb. 4 and 5, the group will move to Vail to review the planning that went into that area.”
