History: Teeing off
Special to the Sun

“According to the Janss Corp., nine holes are planned this summer and an additional nine will be added at a future date,” announced the Aspen Times in 1966. The original Snowmass course, called the Brush Creek Country Club, was designed by acclaimed golf course designer J. Press Maxwell, but golfers would have to wait until 1968 to play due to construction and then the maturing of the grass. This image by Robert Hadden shows the ski runs in the background as they use large machinery to construct the new course.
