History: Ongoing education
“Ski instructors meet at Snowmass Resort” announced The Aspen Times in April of 1974. “More than 700 members of the Professional Ski Instructors of America are meeting this weekend at Snowmass Resort.” The subject of the four-day conference was the “Psychology of Teaching and Learning” with demonstrations of different methods for coaching a race team conducted by pro racer and former U.S. team member Spider Sabich, who also was a Snowmass pro and the namesake of the resort’s race arena. Topics included the American Teaching Method, business management, kinesiology, hot dog demonstrations and teaching methods, teaching the handicapped, marketing ski schools, ski equipment, ski touring and demonstrations. “Members of the US demonstration team will also give on-hill critiques, skiing with the attending instructors and working on all phases of technique” mentioned the article. Here, Jon Reveal addresses a group of skiers at the Spider Sabich Race Arena in Snowmass.
