History: Closing time

Holding true to how folks party today, events like the Ski Splash were a way for locals and visitors alike to celebrate skiing and all the ways one can make a splash. This photo from the Ski Splash of 1976 shows a man preparing to descend a pitch into a pond of water, much like the Schneetag that still takes place on Highlands and Snowmass during closing week today. Snowmass ski area’s last day for the season was April 10.
